Bangladesh Seeks Dutch Support for River Dredging

The Daily Star reports that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday sought Dutch cooperation in river dredging, land reclamation, construction of embankments, creating greenbelt in the coastal region, and in the climate change adaptation and mitigation programmes.

Hasina told the Dutch Minister for Development, Dr Ben Knapen, that Bangladesh deserves high level international support including technological and financial assistance in its climate change adaptation and mitigation programmes.

Bangladesh is a country crisscrossed by some 310 rivers and our government has undertaken a mega project, titled ‘capital dredging’ for increasing navigability of the rivers and also prevent floods,“ stated Hasina.

The premier also sought Dutch investment in the fields of renewable energy, power generation, agro-industry, information technology, tourism, telecommunication, infrastructure development, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather goods, textiles, and electronics.
