Beach Nourishment

Beach nourishment works will kick off next week at Mounts Bay, Marengo to build resilience to coastal erosion along the Great Ocean Road.

Sand from areas south of Point Bunbury, Apollo Bay will be harvested for the works, which aim to protect both the roadway and essential services in the area.

We conduct regular beach nourishment along the coast and will continue to keep working to protect these beautiful areas from storm surges and high tides,” said Acting Climate Action and Resilience Manager Jesse Parsons-Jones.

These works were postponed from the end of 2024 due to Hooded Plover chick activity on the Barham River spit. Active monitoring of hooded plovers is central to this approach, ensuring their protection throughout the process.
