Boskalis wraps up another dredging campaign in Southampton

Dredging

Using trailing suction hopper dredgers Causeway and Strandway and backhoe dredger Manu Pekka, Boskalis Westminster recently completed another dredging project in Southampton, UK.

The project consisted of two phases:

  • a survey of 73 targets for the presence of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and a smaller number of potential archaeological interest,
  • dredging operations.

And after ruling out the presence of UXO or objects of archaeological value, the second phase began – dredging 200,000 cubic meters of dense heavy clay from the access channel and around the jetty.

The dredged material was collected in the split hopper barges Terraferre 301 and 302 and then transported to a designated disposal area using the pusher tug Terramare 1.
