Sand nourishment is a vital measure in conserving the Dunk Island Spit foreshore to combat erosion on either side of the jetty.

Works will include movement of heavy vehicles and machinery, according to the council.

Weather permitting, preparations are expected to start this week, with further heavy machinery arriving onsite Thursday, January 23.

The council said that the works will pause over the Australia Day long weekend to recommence Tuesday, January 28.
