BREAKING NEWS: Land reclamation for Makunudhoo Airport wraps up

The land reclamation phase for the Makunudhoo Airport project in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the Maldives, has reached its completion, local media reports.

According to the Makunudhoo Council, the shore protection works are now underway to safeguard the newly reclaimed land, including the installation of geobags.

Also, a 3,394-meter revetment will be installed to protect the dredged area.

Initial plans for the Makunudhoo Airport included a 1,500-meter runway.

Following a visit to the island last year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to extend the runway to 1,800 meters at the request of island residents.

Muizzu also said that the land reclamation project for the island would be strategically designed to foster development across the island.
