Last Friday, The Katea – towing the barge Hall 2 – left Townsville in northern Queensland, bound for Kwajalein Atoll.

This is the second barge heading the way to support construction of the 1.8km seawall on the low-lying island of Ebeye throughout 2025.

As one of the world’s smallest and lowest-lying island nations, RMI is extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change and severe weather events.

The project involves constructing a new seawall on the Ebeye Atoll using approximately 65,000 tons of armor rock to minimize erosion and greatly reduce inundation from storm surges.
