This major restoration effort near Lake Charles, is transforming approx. 395 acres of wetland using dredged materials from the nearby Calcasieu Ship Channel.

The project will restore shoreline damaged by a 2006 oil spill, boost critical habitat for wildlife like the black rail and saltmarsh topminnow, and support fish, shrimp, and bird populations that inhabit the area.

By building tidal creeks and marsh edge habitat, it provides crucial environmental benefits and preserves Southwest Louisiana’s coastal ecosystem, said CPRA.
