USA: Hampton Harbor Dredging Plan Unveiled

According to a dredging application filed by Appledore Marine Engineering, at least 220 million tons of sand will be removed from Hampton Harbor and deposited on or close to nearby beaches.

Fred Welch, the Hampton Town Manager, said Appledore has filed application on behalf of the Pease Authority’s Division of Ports and Harbors to perform a substantial dredging of the harbor — work that was put on hold by the state late last year.

He said the dredging, which will be done later this year, would remove a total of 81,600 cubic yards of “sandy material” from the harbor and roughly 3,300 cubic yards from the federal navigation channel east of the Neil R. Underwood Memorial Bridge, which runs over the harbor.
