With the weather warming up it’s great to see locals and visitors getting out and about enjoying the great outdoors in the Mount. We’re mindful that we’re entering a busy season for our beaches so it’s important we restore Pilot Bay for our wider community to enjoy,” said Alison Law, Manager of Spaces and Places at the Council.

“The last time sand was replaced in this area was spring 2023. Typically, sand replenishment is an annual activity – this ensures the beach remains attractive for the upcoming summer season.”

Sand replenishment work is anticipated to get underway on Monday, November 4, and take up to 5 days to complete, weather permitting.

During this time, a 500-metre section of the beach, between Leinster Avenue and Salisbury Avenue, will be temporarily fenced off to ensure the safety of the public. Working this way still maintains some beach access for our community,” added Law.

While works are underway, large trucks and machinery will be operating in the area to bring in the sand, which is sourced from the dredging operations in the Port of Tauranga.
