The work is being undertaken with the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Brisbane, by removing natural sediment from the shipping channel to ensure vessels can safely access the Port to provide essential goods to the region.

The TSHD Brisbane will use a vacuum mechanism to remove sediment that has settled on the seabed, which is then placed at sea at an approved area.

The campaign will take about four weeks.

According to the Port’s official announcement, boaties are advised to stay at least 100m away from the dredger and support vessels.
