Royal IHC cuts steel for two electrically powered dredgers

The steel cutting ceremony of two electrically powered mining dredgers for Kenmare Resources took place at Royal IHC shipyard in Kinderdijk today.

We were honoured to welcome Kees van der Staaij and aldermen Hugo van der Wal and Piet Vat to Royal IHC’s shipyards in both Kinderdijk and Krimpen aan den IJssel,” said Royal IHC.

“In Kinderdijk Mr. Van der Staaij, in his new role as Special Envoy of the Dutch maritime industry, was invited to initiate the ceremonial cutting of the first steel plate for the two electrically powered mining dredgers we are building for our client Kenmare Resources Plc.”

During the visit, the officials discussed a number of topics related to the Dutch maritime industry together with NMT | Netherlands Maritime Technology and Topsector Water & Maritiem, such as:

  • reinforcing the industry’s international position,
  • Dutch strategic autonomy,
  • the economic value of Royal IHC facilities, and
  • their ecosystems for the region.
