Maintenance dredging underway at Port Walcott

The Department of Transport, Western Australia, has announced that maintenance dredging works are underway at the Port Walcott.

This dredging campaign commenced in mid-January 2024 and is expected to be completed by approximately the 9 February 2024.

According to DoT, dredging is being undertaken in the Rio Tinto Iron Ore berth pockets, turning basins and navigation channels, with material placed offshore in 3 offshore spoil grounds.

Jan de Nul’s trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) Juan Sebastian de Elcano “Elcano” (LOA: 158m) is the primary dredge vessel undertaking the works.
