Jan De Nul’s Willem Van Rubroeck working its way in the Port of Suape

Jan De Nul Group is working on another historic project in Brazil – deepening of the Port of Suape.

According to the Ministério de Portos e Aeroportos, the last stage of dredging works for the Complexo Industrial Portuário de Suape has begun and the work is being carried out by one of the world’s largest cutter suction dredgers, the Willem Van Rubroeck.

The dredger – specially designed to operate in challenging rocky soils and adverse weather conditions – is a perfect match for the Suape dredging project.

During the works, the Willem van Rubroeck will remove over 1,300,000 cubic meters of dredge sediment from the sea.

The deepening of the waterway to 20 meters will ensure a better competitive position for the port, enabling the berthing of large vessels with their maximum capacity, such as Suezmax-type oil tankers.

Dredging of the Suape access channel and turning basin is expected to be concluded by the end of 2024.
