USACE crews hard at work to keep the Mississippi River open

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to play a key role in maintaining navigation on the nation’s major waterways.

According to the Corps, the St. Louis District dredging team, and everyone that supports them, works 24/7 to keep the Mississippi River open, allowing commerce to move.

Dredge Potter is currently working Mississippi River mile ~28-29. The Army Corps, St. Paul District’s Dredge Goetz is working on the Illinois River ~62-63.

Earlier this year USACE brought in regional asset — Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dredge Hurley — to efficiently address hotspots.

Ongoing coordination with USCG, USACE and River Industry Action Committee ensures USACE partners have a Common Operating Picture of channel conditions in order to prioritize dredging locations, determine buoy placement needs and share real time information.
