Uljanik Launches Pedro Alvares Cabral

Pedro Alvares Cabral, the first of two trailing suction hopper dredgers that Uljanik Shipyard has been constructing for the Luxemburg-based company Jan De Nul S.A. Capellen G.D. Luxembourg, was launched yesterday in Uljanik.

The 147,6 m Pedro Alvares Cabral weighs 26.000 tons and is 30 meters wide. The vessel and the corresponding equipment will be operated by two 7200 kW main diesel engines and the depth from which the vessel will be capable of dredging the material is approximately 42 to 50 meters.

The construction agreement was signed in July 2010 and the key laying ceremony was held in October last year. Following the delivery, the vessel will be flying the colors of Luxemburg.

Furthermore, the key laying ceremony was held for the construction of the second trailing suction hopper dredger, Uljanik Shipyard will be constructing for Jan De Nul.
