“The dredge ‘Texas’ started the process of placing sand on the Avalon beaches on Monday, April 17th, at 11:45am,” the borough said in the release.

GLDD is pumping sand on the 9th Street beach, and has quite a bit of sand to pump in Avalon’s northerly limits due to sand erosion.

The project is anticipated to last roughly 25 days, weather permitting. During the works, around 581,000 cubic yards of new sand will be placed on the Avalon shoreline.

Once complete, the contractor will have a booster pump station located offshore Avalon that will take sand to the next project – the Stone Harbor.

Currently, the project in Avalon is anticipated to be completed before Memorial Day weekend; while the Stone Harbor project may run until June 27th.
