The funding is from two recently enacted laws — the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; and the 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.

On Jan. 19, 2022, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works announced the studies, projects, and programs that are receiving funding under the two laws. Nationwide, the laws provide $22.81 billion for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works program.

“This funding enables us to maintain navigation channels; repair structures; maintain our infrastructure; and complete studies,” said USACE Philadelphia District Commander Lt. Col. Ramon Brigantti. “We look forward to working with our partners to implement the funds in our region.”

Some of the projects that will receive the funding are:

  • Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet Project – $30.2 million to conduct periodic nourishment of the dune and berm project along the Barnegat Inlet peninsula in Ocean County, NJ;
  • Delaware River, Philadelphia to the Sea (Federal Navigation Channel) – $25 million to maintain dredged material disposal sites along the Delaware River;
  • New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway – $14.3 million to dredge portions of the federal channel between Manasquan Inlet and the Cape May ferry area; repair portions of the Point Pleasant Canal bulkhead; and repair the Cape May Canal banks and gabions;
  • Salem River – $7.1 million to conduct surveys and dredging of portions of the federal channel in Salem County, NJ.
