New Amador Cruise Terminal delivered

Panama’s new Amador Cruise Terminal has been delivered recently and is now providing berthing services for cruises vessels, reports China Harbor Engineering Company.

The design and construction contract for the Amador cruise terminal, at Perico Island, was awarded by Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) in 2017 to the consortium Cruceros del Pacifico, comprised of Jan De Nul Panama SA and CHEC.

Overall, the project included dredging of the berth pocket, turning basin and access channel by deploying a backhoe dredger and trailing suction hopper dredger.

Apart from the terminal, the contract also included construction of all land based facilities, located right at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. A hopper dredger was used to dredge and transport sand from a borrow area and reclaim an area of 8.3 hectares for the construction of these facilities.

When fully completed, the new cruise terminal will be able to accommodate two 360m-long vessels with a capacity of up to five thousand passengers each – two Oasis class vessels can berth simultaneously.
