The USACE Jacksonville District said that dredging operations on the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) Palm Valley North Reaches will be undertaken in two shifts per day, seven days per week when they begin work sometime in the next two months.

The district plans to begin dredging operations to address problematic shoaling within this reach of the IWW as early as this month, finishing in May 2022.

Under the work, some 640,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged from the channel for deposit in the existing Dredge Material Management Area DU-9, located in Duval County at the north end of the project area.

Dredging will begin at the Duval-St. Johns County line and move southward to the Palm Valley Bridge.

“The Corps requests boaters and residents to exercise heightened caution in the work areas on the IWW. Navigators should watch for the marked floating pipeline within the IWW, and for the working dredge and transport barge while operations are under way,” USACE said.
