Fountain Lake restoration moves forward

Shell Rock River Watershed District has just released the latest update on their Fountain Lake Restoration in Albert Lea, MN.

In fact, over 271,300 cubic yards have been removed from the Main Bay and Dane’s Bay during the current phase of the project.

According to the official announcement, this survey was undertaken by the dredging contractor, J.F. Brennan Company, Inc.

The first phase included removal of over 700,000 cubic yards of sediment out of the Edgewater Bay.

After the second phase of dredging, the third and final phase will complete the Fountain Lake Restoration Project.

The third phase includes Main Bay (East Basin), Bancroft Channel and parts of Bancroft Bay.

However, the key goal of the Fountain Lake Restoration Project is to remove 1.7 million cubic yards of sediment.

Also, the project has gotten support from other community entities, including the city of Albert Lea, Freeborn County, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau.
