The Environment Agency recently held two public information events at the Arundel Town Hall to update the community on its plans to better protect people at highest risk of flooding and river erosion in Arundel.

The drop-ins were attended by 84 people, including the local MP, Nick Herbert.

At the events, the EA shared details of the progress so far, images and plans of what the scheme could look like and details of how construction might affect the community.

The Arundel Tidal Defenses Scheme-Phase 1 is a joint effort of the Environment Agency, Arundel Town Council, West Sussex County Council and Arun District Council.

The scheme comprises work on both sides of the river, upstream and downstream of the A27 bridge.

This includes replacing the collapsed section of wall in River Road, for which the residents are making a substantial financial contribution.

It is hoped that the scheme will begin later this year, with the sites being set up in August and construction work scheduled for September.
