Trident Wins Pennsylvania Harbor Dredging Contract

The Borough of Avalon is about to begin a maintenance dredging project in Pennsylvania Harbor that will clear the public navigation channel in advance of the spring and summer boating seasons.

The Council awarded a contract on Wednesday, February 13th to Trident Piling Company, LLC that will result in largely sandy material being removed from the channel and being deposited at a location with an Acceptable Use Determination from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

A pre-construction meeting with the contractor was held on Tuesday, February 26th. Trident Piling plans to mobilize on March 25th and begin dredging on or about March 27th.

As soon as we learned from boaters that the sandy material washed in to the channel we began a survey of the conditions and began the process of obtaining necessary federal and state approvals,” said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi.

The project will dredge the floor of the harbor just west of the street end at 21st Street. The material will be mechanically removed and placed on a barge, then in water-tight trucks to be taken to the disposal facility.

According to the Avalon Borough Council, a Notice to Proceed will be issued to the contractor in the next several days.
