The $18.3 million project will require removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels since they were last dredged.

According to the fbo.gov announcement, the dredging operations will be performed by hydraulic cutter suction dredge and/or mechanical dredge (clamshell, dragline, or dipper).

Maximum dredging depth will be 45 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth.

The estimated quantity of material to be dredged, including allowable overdepth, is approximately 1,600,000 cubic yards, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wilmington District said.

Disposal of dredged material is set to take place in the Morehead City Nearshore East and/or Nearshore West Placement Area.
