USACE Strengthens Mississippi Levee System Near Blackhawk

Business & Finance

As a precautionary measure, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District, is currently working to strengthen a section of the main line Mississippi levee system near Blackhawk, LA.

This proactive effort will help reduce the water seepage and materials shifting in and around the levee system, said USACE in its release.

The work, located approximately three miles north of the intersection of LA 15 and LA 910, consists of hauling sand and gravel from the riverside of the levee, crossing Louisiana Highway 15, to land side of the levee.

The Vicksburg District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees.
