Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, recently awarded a $4.9 million contract to Cottrell Contracting, Inc. to perform maintenance dredging work in Norfolk Harbor, Hampton Roads, VA.

According to the FedBizOpps, the contract is for the maintenance and minor “New-Work” dredging of the Norfolk Harbor and Craney Island Reach, and Portsmouth Marine Terminals Access Channels and Berthing Areas.

The work in Norfolk Harbor and Craney Island Reach consists of maintenance dredging to a required depth of 52 feet MLLW with one foot of allowable over depth. During the work, Cottrell will remove over 650,000 cubic yards of dredged material, including allowable over depth dredging.

The dredging in Portsmouth Marine Terminal Access Channel and Berthing Area involves removal of approximately 120,000 cubic yards of material, including the allowable over depth.

For the project, the contractor will use one of its cutter suction dredgers and pipeline all dredged material to the designated Government-furnished placement area at Craney Island.

The completion of the project is expected in the first quarter of 2018.
