PUMA Completes Phase 1 of Offshore Center Maasvlakte 2

The Port of Rotterdam has just released the latest update on their new Offshore Center Maasvlakte 2 (OCMV2) development scheme, saying that the PUMA consortium (Boskalis and Van Oord) already completed the Phase 1 of the project.

With the help of a cutter suction dredger and several trailing suction hopper dredgers, 30 ha of land have been reclaimed so far, according to the official announcement.

Van Oord deployed the dredgers Volvox Olympia and Rotterdam for this project. The required 6 million m³ has been extracted from an offshore borrow area and the port basin.

The Port of Rotterdam said that approximately 8 million m³ of sand is required to realize a total surface area of 70 ha. The remaining 40 ha will be handed over no later than 1st of July 2018.

70 hectares of land, 1,600 meters of quay

Offshore Center Maasvlakte 2 (OCMV2) will be located in Princess Alexiahaven against the seawall, near the berth of the Pioneering Spirit.

The port said that this will be a center where leading businesses work together in the offshore wind, decommissioning and oil and gas markets with activities such as construction, assembly, heavy lift, logistics, mobilizations and demobilizations.

The plan is that the first businesses will become operational on OCMV2 in the course of 2019.
