Great Lakes Webinar on Sediment Choreography

Business & Finance

The Great Lakes Commission will tomorrow, October 24, organize a webinar named “Sediment Choreography: Using natural forces to maintain harbors”.

This informational webinar, which starts at 10 a.m. EDT / 9 a.m. CDT, will explore new approaches to upstream management practices using a river’s natural energy to reduce sediment load – and thus the amount of downstream dredging required – in Great Lakes commercial ports and recreational harbors.

Using the Port of Cleveland’s experience, and other case studies, the discussion will also include strategies to recognize and maximize the value of collected bedload sediment as a commodity, rather than having to manage it as a solid waste.

Speakers:

  • Jason Ziss, Business Development Director, Kurtz Bros.,Inc.;
  • Sean Burkholder, Assistant Professor of Landscape and Urban Design at the University at Buffalo;
  • Brian Davis, Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University.
