Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, is doing everything to keep the pool navigable at Dam 52, Brookport, Illinois.

According to the Corps latest update on the river closure at Locks and Dam 52, USACE has constructed a rock dike around a portion of the Dam and is doing everything possible to get the dam operational.

The short term intermittent repairs are ongoing, and the Corps looks forward to the opening of the Olmsted project in the summer of 2018 which will replace Locks and Dam 52/53.

The Olmsted Locks and Dam project, currently under construction on the Ohio River at river mile 964.4, will replace Locks and Dam 52 and 53 to greatly reduce tow and barge delays.

The locks are located about 17 miles upstream from the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers at Olmsted, Illinois. According to the Corps, the new dam and locks will reduce passage time to under one hour with the new system.
