Empire Hosts CPRA Coastal Connections

Business & Finance

Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) will host their Coastal Connections event in Empire, Louisiana, today to talk with residents about the Mid-Breton and Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion projects.

A cornerstone project of Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan, the sediment diversion, is key to a long-term sustainable strategy to reduce land loss rates and sustain wetlands that were injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, CPRA said.

The State of Louisiana’s proposed Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion is intended to achieve the greatest possible wetland restoration results while minimizing other effects on Mississippi River and Barataria Basin resources.

To assist with timely efforts for procurement and management of design, environmental requirements and construction of the Mid-Barataria and Mid-Breton Sediment Diversion Projects, the CPRA created the Mississippi River Mid-Basin Sediment Diversion Program.
