Port Phillip Dredging Work Set for Next Month

Business & Finance

Port of Melbourne said in its latest announcement that the maintenance dredging operations in the entrance to Port Phillip and in the port precinct will take place during the next month.

The dredging works will be undertaken by the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Brisbane, operated by Boskalis Australia Pty Ltd.

“The Brisbane is 84.1 meters long and will be clearly visible during its work in the Great Ship Channel and South Channel,” said the port.

Maintenance dredging is a routine part of port operations to remove a build-up of sediment. This maintains the declared depths of shipping channels, berths, approaches and associated swing basins for the safe operation of shipping.

All maintenance dredging in the Port of Melbourne is undertaken in accordance with an approved Environmental Management Plan (EMP), the port said.
