Business & Finance

The Haines Borough in Alaska has just released latest update on the Portage Cove Harbor Expansion project.

According to the update, Pacific Pile & Marine has completed the harbor dredging and will begin installing the new breakwater.

Pile driving work will begin at the entrance of the harbor and move south. “There will be times when the harbor entrance will be closed off and vessel traffic will need to navigate south, around the large equipment barge, in order to enter the harbor,” the update said.

Overall, the Portage Cove Harbor Expansion project will include harbor basin dredging works, steel pile supported wave barrier, moorage pile replacement and upland parking area works. The dredging portion of the project included removal of approx 130,000 cubic yards of marine sediment from 7 acres below the Mean High Water mark (MHW), to provide sufficient water depth at all tidal ranges.

The borough expects all work to be completed by May 31, 2018.
