The City of Jacksonville Beach said in its latest announcement that the work to redistribute the sand to areas south of 16th Avenue South is set to begin next week, July 24.

These operations are expected to take about a week, the city said.

Last October, Hurricane Matthew damaged the dunes along the Duval County coastline. Since then, many dunes have been restored.

As part of the dune restoration project, 5,000 cubic yards of sand was placed between 15th Avenue South and 16th Avenue South.

For safety reasons, the beach and beach accesses in the area between 14th Avenue South and 27th Avenue South will be closed during the week on varying days and times as the project progresses, the city said.
