Luedtke Wins Lake St. Clair Dredging Contract

Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, awards a contract for maintenance dredging of the Channels of Lake St. Clair.

The contract for almost $872,000 was awarded to Luedtke Engineering Company, of Frankfort, Mich.

Luedtke will dredge approximately 35,000 cubic yards of sand, silt and organic material from the channel.

The material will be placed at the mouth of the Clinton River to be used in a wetland creation project that has been identified as a necessary action for delisting the Clinton River Area of Concern.

“This dredging project presents a great opportunity to beneficially use the materials as part of a larger plan to restore environmental conditions and a former dredged material disposal facility at the mouth of the Clinton River,” said Lt. Col. Dennis Sugrue, district engineer.

The dredged material will be placed in Lake St. Clair near the mouth of the Clinton River just south of the Harley Ensign Boating Memorial Site.

The maintenance dredging is expected to begin in late July or August and wrap up in October.
