Business & Finance

Boskalis Westminster is continuing dredging operations in Aberdeenshire under the £50 million Peterhead Inner Harbor Redevelopment Project.

The scheme, largest development in the history of the port, was awarded to a joint venture partnership between civil engineering contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey and dredging contractor, Boskalis Westminster.

Under the deal, the contractor will carry out strengthening of quay walls within the port and deepening of the port area. The project also includes widening of the harbor entrance, demolition works as well as land reclamation with revetment.

All of the dredged material taken during the deepening of the harbor will be used to create a 25,000m² reclamation area for future development.

In order to allow the harbor floors to be dredged, the existing quay walls within the port were strengthened first using an innovative ‘RD Piling’ solution which has been developed in Scandinavia.

The RD system has been tailored to suit the specific requirements in Peterhead as a result of close collaboration between McLaughlin & Harvey and the Client’s designer, RPS Consulting Engineers.

Completion of the Peterhead Redevelopment Project is set for March 2018.
