$4.6 Million for Buffalo Harbor Works

Business & Finance

Congressman Brian Higgins and Lt. Col. Adam Czekanski of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, gathered at a press conference Saturday morning to celebrate the receipt of federal funds to repair the south breakwater in Buffalo Harbor.

According to Congressman Higgins, the federal funding will be used for improvements along Buffalo’s Outer Harbor, including breakwater repair and dredging works.

Out of the total $4.6 million, $4 million is to be used for the south breakwater repair and the balance is to be used for engineering and design work, as well as dredging in the harbor.

The 10,200-foot breakwater protects the southerly portion of the Outer Harbor, including commercial slips, the Small Boat Harbor and a private marina. It is routinely exposed to the some of the most severe wave and ice conditions on the Great Lakes.
