The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, has awarded a contract in the amount of $855,080 to Environmental Industrial Services Group Inc., for the dewatering of Houston Ship Channel Peggy Lake Placement Area.

“The dewatering project will help to drain water from the placement area and dry out material within the site for use in future dike raising projects,” said Tricia Campbell, an operations manager with the USACE Galveston District’s Navigation Branch.

“Peggy Lake Placement Area provides capacity for maintenance material dredged from the Houston Ship Channel project, while dewatering helps to extend placement area life in order to facilitate future dredging projects along the Houston Ship Channel.”

Work is scheduled to begin this month and is expected to be completed by October 2017.

Dewatering contracts are a key component of the Corps’ overall management of dredged material placement areas, USACE said.

Each year, the USACE Galveston District dredges approximately 30 to 40 million cubic yards of material from Texas channels to fulfill its mission of keeping waterways open for navigation and commerce (benefiting 28 ports handling 500 million tons of commerce annually).
