Morehead City Harbor Project Enters Last Phase

Business & Finance

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) is making good progress with the Morehead City Harbor beach nourishment project.

According to the Carteret County (NC), dredging and nourishment continues with the slurry discharge point now located near Greenville Ave.

GLDD started the Morehead City Harbor Channel maintenance dredging project with concurrent beach nourishment on Friday, March 24th 2017.

The project calls for the removal of approximately 667,000 cubic yards of sand from the channel, placing it along 9,500 linear feet of the beach.

In its latest update, the county said that mechanical issues associated with the cutterhead-suction dredge Illinois has impeded progress over the past few days, leaving approximately 1,700 linear feet to be completed.

The environmental window for the project closes on April 30, 2017, and the contractor is required to complete the project by this date.
