Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) Rosmorport has just announced that the Arkhangelsk Port dredging program is officially underway.

During this dredging scheme, undertaken with the Damen built Ice class trailing suction hopper dredger Severnaya Dvina, around 1.7 million cubic meters of material is to be dredged to maintain designed depth.

The vessel started the dredging operations on the main navigation canal of Arkhangelsk Port on 23 April and all the works under this project will be performed by the company’s own dredging fleet, Rosmorport said.

Damen tailored this TSHD 2000 design to meet the high specifications required to operate the vessels in the severe weather conditions of the northern region, with air temperatures ranging from -35°C to +40°C.

The dredging works at the Arkhangelsk Port are aimed to ensure a number of advantages: increase of cargo flow in the region; improvement of transport competitiveness; status of a federal infrastructure project; development of shipbuilding cluster; opportunity to arrange assembling of large capacity vessels; expansion of the range of cargo; development of the Northern Sea Route; generation of jobs; higher fees for ships’ calls; higher tax allocations, development of tourism sector with the calls of cruise ships.
