MRDC to Build Jetties at Six Maldives Islands

Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has won a contract to build jetties at six islands for over MVR 14 million (around $1 million), according to the Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure latest announcement.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and MRDC’s Managing Director, Ahmed Nimal, signed the agreement yesterday.

“We hope that MRDC will get the signed projects underway very soon and complete them as soon as possible,” said Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The contract will include the following islands:

  • Baa atoll Fehendhoo island;
  • Baa atoll Fulhadhoo island;
  • Vaavu atoll Fulidhoo island;
  • Vaavu atoll Raakeedhoo island;
  • Raa atoll Rasgetheemu island;
  • Meemu atoll Rathmandhoo island.

These six islands are amongst the least populated islands in the Maldives, the minister added.

MRDC’s MD Nimal estimated that that the jetties will be completed by the end of October 2017.

During the yesterday’s ceremony, minister Muizzu also said that projects to develop jetties in Alif Dhaal atoll Mandhoo island and Alif Alif atoll Himandhoo island will be awarded soon.
