Ramboll, Arup and TEC Nab Fehmarnbelt Consultancy Contract

Business & Finance

Ramboll, Arup and TEC Tunnel Engineering Consultants have won the tender for client consultancy on the upcoming Fehmarnbelt fixed link between Denmark and Germany.

The 18km combined road and rail link will be the longest immersed tunnel in the world.

The consortium has collaborated on the design of the immersed tunnel since April 2009 and has now won the bid for client consultancy. The Fehmarnbelt tunnel will be one the largest construction projects in Danish history with an overall contract period of 15 years and an estimated value of EUR114 million.

The tunnel will connect Denmark’s Lolland Falster region with Germany’s Schleswig Holstein region.

This will shorten the journey between the German and Danish coasts to just 10 minutes by car and 7 minutes by train, compared to the current travel time of one hour by ferry or a 160 km detour via the Danish region of Jutland by car.

As reported earlier, Boskalis, DEME and Van Oord will also be included in activities related to the construction of the Fehmarnbelt fixed link.

The activity scope for Van Oord together with Boskalis includes the dredging of a tunnel trench in the seabed over a distance of 16 kilometers.
