Work on the Badsey Brook Scheme Continues

The Environment Agency is continuing work on the Badsey Brook flood risk management scheme that will reduce flood risk to properties along the Badsey and Bunches Brook in Broadway, Childswickham and Murcot and Aldington to the River Avon.

As a condition of the planning application, detailed archaeological investigations, part funded by Worcestershire County Council, are being carried out, reports the EA.

This involves excavation work and will reduce the risk of delays during construction. These ground works are almost complete.

Specialist contractors will also be on site during the early part of 2017 carrying out tree clearance in preparation for the main flood scheme works.

The scheme will include the construction of a flood storage area which will be able to hold up to 135,000 cubic meters of water upstream of Cheltenham Road in Broadway. Earth embankments and a control structure will also be constructed to limit the amount of water flowing down the brook during periods of high rainfall.

Construction work on the scheme is due to start in summer 2017 and expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
