Vortex Marine Bags Wicomico River Dredging Contract

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has awarded a $3.6 million contract to Vortex Marine Construction Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Wicomico River, MD.

The contractor will use hydraulic pipeline dredge to perform the maintenance dredging of the river, reported the Corps.

Approximately 120,000 cubic yards of silty and sandy material is to be dredged, transported and placed in Ellis Bay for beneficial use and wetland restoration.

The work includes placement of coir logs for containment, placement of dredge material, planting of vegetation. Approximately 5-10 acres of wetland will be created using thin layer placement methods on existing marsh (approximately 10,000 cubic yards of material).

USACE estimates the completion of the project in late 2017.
