Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s Draft Inner Harbor and Coastal Erosion Management Policy 2017 is out for consultation from Monday, 20 February, to 20 March 2017, the council just announced.

This draft policy, if adopted, will become a 30-year policy detailing how the council responds to coastal and harbor erosion, the officials stated.

“The draft is based on feedback received through our online forums in 2016, extensive research on the effects of erosion on our coastlines and inner harbor, and discussions with affected property owners, Iwi and Hapu,” according to the announcement.

Council policy and planning manager, Emily Rogers, added that the draft policy was created following conversations with the community in 2016 through the ‘Living with the Changing Tides’ campaign.

It also takes into account all relevant national information and legislation.
