Underwood Creek Restoration Project in Full Swing

Business & Finance

Work on the Underwood Creek natural habitat restoration project in the City of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, is in full swing, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.

The project consists of the removal of approximately 4,000 linear feet of concrete channel along the lower end of Underwood Creek, located along the western edge of the Milwaukee County Grounds.

Restoration efforts will restore the area’s aquatic ecosystem habitat to a more natural setting through the addition of natural stream features (meanders, shelter areas, and deep riffle pool complexes).

The contract, awarded last September to Michels Corporation of Montgomery, will be completed complete by the spring of 2018.

At the moment, the contractor is removing concrete, installing sheet pile, excavating and preparing for stone installation in the upper reach of the project.
