Morro Bay Harbor Dredging Project Well Underway

Business & Finance

The $4.37 million Morro Bay Harbor dredging project is well underway, reports the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District.

Under this project, which USACE awarded to Ahtna Design-build Corporation earlier in 2016, crews will remove approximately 240,000 cubic yards of clean sand and gravel from the entrance channel, sand trap and main channels at Morro Bay Harbor.

According to the Corps, the contractor is currently pumping about 400 cubic yards of sand p/hour out of the navigational channel. The pipeline extends north from Coleman Beach down to State Parks Property on Morro Strand State Beach.

The City of Morro Bay expects that the entire project should take approximately 2-3 months to complete, depending on the production rates.
