GLDD Wins Morehead City Harbor Dredging Contract

Business & Finance

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) from Oak Brook, Illinois, has won a $7.4 million firm-fixed-price contract for the Morehead City Harbor maintenance dredging work.

“Bids were solicited via the Internet with three received,” according to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The main goal of this dredging program is to ensure continued safe navigation in and out of the Morehead City Harbor.

This cleanup work will consist of removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels since they were last dredged.

The Morehead City Harbor has an authorized depth of 45ft, but shoaling sand has limited this depth. That makes it difficult for some of the Port of Morehead City’s biggest customers to gain access to the facility.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, is the contracting activity and the estimated completion date of this dredging scheme is April 30, 2017.
