HHI Update: Preparations for Hurricane Matthew in Full Swing

Business & Finance

The Town of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, has just released the latest update on their 2016 Beach Nourishment Project.

At 6:00 AM yesterday, the Town’s contractor Weeks Marine, Inc., ceased sand placement activities and began preparing for the worsening sea conditions expected as a result of the approach of Hurricane Matthew, Hilton Head Island stated in the announcement.

The hydraulic cutter suction dredger CR McCaskill and its attendant booster pump will be taken off station and brought to safe harbor in the Calibogue Sound.

Approximately 12,000 feet of shore pipe in place from South Forest Beach to southern Palmetto Dunes will be disassembled, stockpiled and then hauled to the Town’s Collier Beach property until the storm passes.

As a result of the pipeline transport activities beach goers within the project foot print should expect to see additional vehicular activity.

Storm related preparations are expected to be completed on October 5, 2016.
