New Cutter Suction Dredger for Brighton Marina

Business & Finance

The Brighton Marina team welcomed Marina Master MII, their new cutter suction dredger (CSD), on September 13, 2016.

Measuring 14 meters in length and weighing 25 tonnes, the CSD ‘Doris’ was successfully launched into the water to begin the sea trials in preparation for next season.

The CSD is designed by Norfolk based Goodchild Marine Services and manufactured in Italy.

“Having taken delivery of ‘Doris’ at Brighton, we now have the ability to augment its routine dredging program. The method of dredging using a self-contained cutter suction unit reduces the need to remove pontoon fingers and overall time needed to prepare, dredge and reinstate berths after,” said Marina Manager, Daniel Heckford.

“Using her unique extendable arm ‘Doris’ will be able to dredge under pontoons and the main concourses easily, and eat through material quicker than back-hoe methods. This is a really exciting time for Brighton, as the dredger showcases the level of investment Premier are prepared to spend at what is still the largest marina in the UK.”

Officially owned and operated by Premier Marinas, the CSD ‘Doris’ will undertake extra dredging works to complement the current annual dredging program.
