St Kilda Marina Dredging Underway

Business & Finance

The maintenance dredging project that will remove sand from the entrance of the St Kilda Marina and ensure safe boat access in the area is now underway, according to the Parks Victoria Notice to Mariners (No. 248T – 2016).

Dredging works within the entrance to the marina will be carried out by a medium-sized cutter suction dredge.

The sand dredged during the maintenance will be pumped through a discharge pipe to the beach immediately north of Shakespeare St Drain Outlet.

The dredging began on Thursday, 25 August 2016, and will last until 30 September 2016, weather permitting.

The project takes place every few years, lifting sediment off the ocean floor to help with boat navigation in shallow areas.
