Hilton Head Island Beach Renourishment Continues to Make Progress

Business & Finance

The Town of Hilton Head Island beach renourishment project continues to make progress with the area between Painted Bunting Road and Bald Eagle Road currently being restricted for beach construction.

The town and its contractor, Weeks Marine Inc., began this $20.7 million beach renourishment project in late June 2016.

So far, around 700,000 cubic yards of sand has been pumped to the Island’s beach.

The 2016 renourishment project, part of the town’s long-term strategy for beach restoration and maintenance, will be similar to the projects constructed in 1990, 1997 and 2006, with the exception that no sand will be placed between the Folly and the Westin Resort.

The project construction is expected to last about 5 months.
